6.5m Race scow hull Sail Yacht Design Andrei Rochian 2022
A new type of sailing yacht has been developed in France in the last 3-5 years, first for the Trans Atlantica Mini Transat race and then for the general public. It is a scow-type sailboat with a round bow and a larger width compared to the geometry of a traditional sailboat with a pointed bow. There are 5-6 scow-hull sailing yachts at the 2022 Grand Pavois La Rochelle International Boat Show built by different companies compared to last year when there was none. In the video is a scow conceived and designed by Andrei Rochian to be built in Romania. This version of the design is not the final one - which I keep confidential until the scale model of the boat is manufactured by my friends who build as we speak the boat in Romania. The scow-type hull works in planing, that is, it slides on the surface of the water and on the waves like a sled. Comparatively, the principle of a sailboat hull with a sharp bow was to cut the waves with a sharp bow, which implies generating a greater resistance force. The scow boat has a smaller draft and less hydrodynamic resistance, so it is faster. It offers about 1/3 or 1/4 more interior volume, more deck space and better steering. You couldn't cruise comfortably with a 6.5m sailboat, now with such a scow-type boat, extended cruising is possible. The interior cabins are for 3+2 people.
